VEHICLES CALIBRATION ENGINE REMAPPING ENGINE TUNE-UP ENGINE OVERHAUL
The purpose of Calibration is to help assure accurate and proper measurement and to optimise efficiency, driveability, performance durability and safety measures of the vehicles.
We heard the word of calibration frequently in modern vehicles when we take our vehicle periodic maintenance in the authorised dealership. Modern vehicles calibration has become a vital role play in your car. Calibration is a set of operations that under certain conditions establish a relation between values indicated by measuring the accuracy operation of electronic components as well as mechanical parts and systems. So that your vehicle is assured smoothly and with optimal performance.
Celebration, Why do we need it?
The same engine may be used in several different vehicles. These vehicles will have different characteristics, How can the same engine be distinctive? The Electronic control module / Unit controls the engine using different parameters or values.
A sports car should be a faster accelerating vehicle compared to a medium pick-up truck, A pick-up truck should heavier load than a sports car. They might use the same engine type values used by the ECM/ECU are different. Similar A SUV required more assistance than a two-seater coupe car because its weight is more. We might want to use the same ECM/ECU but the values used to control the steering at varying speeds are different.
Calibration is required for powerplant, powertrain and under chassis components and systems.
Powerplant refers to combustion engines like Petrol, diesel, Compressed Natural gas CNG, Liquidity Natural Gas LNG, even Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. Internal combustion engines are associated with supporting systems like ignition, fuel, lubrication, cooling and engine control system.
Why the need for engine calibration?
Modern Automobile engines operated mechanically as well as the sophisticated electronic serval's sensors switch these all inputs devices constantly engines continuously operation without hesitation smoothly delivery, throttle body, fuel injection, spark ignition, torque response Exhaust Gas Recirculation purge, solenoid, turbo actuator, charging system, starting system measuring or monitors flow pressure temperature, evaporation emissions, etc. timely required calibration particular components and subsystem. To ensures that enhance engine power efficiency.
Sensor calibration is an adjustment or set of adjustments performed on the sensor and other electrical units. Electronic sensors are transmitters that reference voltage, signal, temperature, pressure change in ambient conditions, to make that precisely function without trouble code-free or error-free in your car.
Calibration is necessary when a vehicle something electronic or mechanical parts replaced it repairs and removed, e.g suppose new tyres replaced from the vehicle it needs to necessary to do wheel alignment same way tyre pressure sensing and restore the tyres required calibration so that tyres and wheel readjustment is the one the kind of calibration. Similar ABS braking, Steering angle camera, radar and other safety features replaced or repairs need to calibration for smooth operations and functioning.
Generally, calibration is done in scan tools or special tools of the developed software by a recomandated authorized company. There are two ways of vehicles calibration they are static calibration (in-workshop) and dynamic calibration (on-road). It has hardly taken time for calibration 10 to 60 minutes that recording to the various devices software based on different specific systems.
Powertrain and under chassis calibration:
Powertrain consisting of transmission, transaxle, differential transfer case, driveline, universal joint, axle shaft and wheels. They are regularly schedule-wise calibrations especially automatic transmission and transaxles, torque converter, CVT, DCT, etc. These devices are controlled by Electronic control module/unit. Under chassis system and components braking, suspension steering system and their electronic parts required calibration for the trouble-free, noise-free and comfortable driveability. Some other safety features like electronic stability programme ESP, Automated Driving Assistance System ADAS, camera aiming, radar and laser system, windshield replacing rest of the active and passive safety features that require calibration when replacing and removed devices on the system or software updated interval-based.
Vehicles Calibration Summary
Calibration is measurement and adjustment of value to improve performance or allow us to have a common system and different vehicles. There is a special type of communication used for measurement and calibration. Calibration refers to measuring and changing interval values in the ECM/ECU that has suited the needs of the vehicles.
ECU Remapping :
Remapping is software-based vehicles Electronic Control Unit or Module ECU/ECM programmes. It is mainly worked by those whose cars wanted to improve engine power and torque and overall performance and enhanced drivability (especially in car enthusiasts) through laptops via Onboard Diagnostic Port (OBD). It changing manufacturing default setting software programmes and upload new software programmes on the car ECU or ECM.
Engine Control Unit (ECU) Remapping Pros & Cons:
There are several pros and cons of ECU remapping.
• 20 to30% extra power and torque of the cars.
• improved driveability.
• Increasing overall performance of the car.
• not major difference on fuel economy, (It depending on driving habits).
• Quite heavier engine exhaust sound.
Cons:
• No warranty access and insurance policy not covered on engines.
• Not recommended by authorised service dealers.
Engine Tuning:
j also includes readjusting or replacing parts as required to restore new engine performance. Engine tuning is a sort of adjustment and modification to enhance the next level of optimal performance and improving the engine power output, good fuel economy and durability.
The purpose of engine tune-up :
Engine tune-up is mainly to restore the engine best performance to maintain electronic and mechanical devices for proper functioning, provide good fuel economy and minimum exhaust emissions level. Engine tune-up refers to the procedure for inspecting testing and adjusting an engine and replacing any worn out parts, to restore the engine to its best performance.
Purpose of Engine overhaul :
Overhauling is a general process consisting of disassembling, cleaning, diagnosis inspection repairs as a possible necessity, replacing generally involving honing, install new pistons and rings, bearings, gaskets, and oil seals, readjustment, minor replacement and tuning up of an engine.
The engine requires overhaul when their a loss of power, heavy oil consumption, increased mechanical abnormal noise etc. These are the main indication or occurs in the car engine.
Thank you Sir.
